Vision, Mission & Objectives

The Centre for Socio-Eco-Nomic Development (CSEND) aims at promoting equitable, sustainable and integrated development through multistakeholder dialogues, institutional learning and free flow of information.

CSEND is an independent, project-financed, non-profit research & development organization founded in 1993 in Geneva, Switzerland. It is accredited by the Swiss National Science Fund as an independent research grant receiving organisation since 2003.

To support human progress through an integrative balance of individual, group, societal and environmental needs whereby self-interest, concern for others and respect for other cultures and for the environment are seen as synergistic, rather than antagonistic factors of human life and societal development.

 

CSEND Mission and Objectives


CSEND's mission is to serve as a centre of knowledge and innovation in socio-economic research and development. Its objective is to facilitate the advancement and practical application of socio-economic theory to support sustainable development and social change.

CSEND works to enhance effective interfacing between different social, economic and political actors in a dynamic system and to strengthen better governance through multistakeholder dialogue and free exchange of information.

 

CSEND Working Methodology


CSEND specialises in organisational reform of public administrations and public and private sector enterprises through the use of an interdisciplinary-socio-economic-ecological approach to world development.

CSEND projects focus primarily on building the learning capacity of institutions through human resource development and management system reform in civil service agencies, public and private sector enterprises and civil society and community organisations.

CSEND promotes the use of quality assured management information systems to systematically track, collect, sort and analyse process information in-situ for the selection and implementation of capacity building programmes for development.

Mandated primarily by governments and international organisations, CSEND designs and implements comprehensive institutional development and capacity-building programmes leading to the adoption of best managerial practices in the public sector, international organisations and non-governmental organisations.

 

CSEND International Status

 

CSEND is accredited by the UN Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) with special consultative status and belong to the NGO Major Group. In addition, CSEND is also accredited to the WTO, WIPO, UNEP, UNFCCC. In addition, CSEND enjoys observer status in UN Taskforce on Social and Solidarity Economy.

Internationally, CSEND participates and takes on expert roles in different leading international organisations, namely,

  • The ISO Technical Committees related to the Ageing Societies (ISO/TC 314) and Quality Management and Quality Assurance (ISO/TC 176).
  • The Accreditation Committee of ICAPA, International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS)
  • Geneva Board, International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP)
  • International Chamber of Sustainable Development (ICSD)
  • The Standing Working Group on Ageing, UNECE
  • NGO Committee on Ageing Geneva
  • Open-ended intergovernmental working group to elaborate the content of an international regulatory framework, without prejudging the nature thereof, relating to the activities of private military and security companies
  • Geneva Global Health Hub (G2H2)
